Anthony V. Perrone was recently elected president
of The Alliance of Public Retiree Organizations of
New York by a unanimous vote of its membership.
A retired Manhattan and Staten Island police officer,
Perrone became a member of the alliance in 1993
representing New York City’s retired police officers and
has been serving as the organization’s secretary.
Perrone will take over as president Tuesday at a
ceremony in Albany when the organization will also be
celebrating its 17th anniversary and honoring its former
president, Edward F. Curran.
The alliance began in 1985 when six major New York
public employee and public retiree organizations, concerned
with the plight of retired municipal and school employees,
began to meet to discuss ideas for legislation to benefit
workers retired from government service. The group was
formalized in 1991 after experiencing an increase in the
number organizations that wanted to participate.
Today the alliance is comprised of 40 member
organizations, representing more than 500,000 former
government employees.
